In January, Mailers move to 555 Crown Street in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn in January. Mailer transfers to P.S. 161, where he skips two half-year terms. In the winter of 1933-34 under the influence of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s fantasy novels about Mars, and the “Flash Gordon” radio program, he writes a long science fiction story, “The Martian Invasion.”
