A posthumous year given largely to J. Michael Lennon’s editions of Mailer’s correspondence — four letter-series in Playboy and the New York Review of Books (09.1–09.4) that prefigure his 2014 Selected Letters (14.3) — and to the first memoirs by those who knew him (09.6 Kaylie Jones; 09.7 Carole Mallory). The scholarly contents of The Mailer Review’s third volume (the Washington, D.C. conference issue) are added below: a cluster on Oswald’s Tale, a substantial section on Mailer’s films (especially Maidstone), and two survey/biography-criticism essays. (Lennon’s exclusions: the volume’s “Postscript to the Fourth Advertisement for Myself” and “Hemingway Revisited” are editor-flagged reprints and are omitted; the volume’s Stream-B annual bibliography is deferred to the dedup pass.)
