The Warren Commission
The presidential commission on the assassination of John F. Kennedy; its 1964 report is the target of Mark Lane's Rush to Judgment, which Mailer reviewed in 1966, and a touchstone for his recurring interest in the assassination.
The President’s Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy, chaired by Chief Justice Earl Warren, issued its report in 1964. Its findings became the target of a wave of skeptical books, among them Mark Lane‘s Rush to Judgment (1966), which Mailer reviewed favorably as “The Great American Mystery” (66.10). The Kennedy assassination remained a recurring preoccupation for Mailer, culminating decades later in Oswald’s Tale: An American Mystery (95.x).
