Arnold Gingrich
Founding editor (1933) and later editor-publisher of Esquire, the magazine with which Mailer became most closely identified. Gingrich co-edited The Armchair Esquire (1958), which reprinted "The Language of Men," and co-moderated the 1959 University of Iowa "Writer in a Mass Culture" symposium.
Arnold Gingrich co-founded Esquire in 1933 and served as its editor and, later, editor-publisher. With L. Rust Hills he co-edited The Armchair Esquire (New York: Putnam’s, 1958), which reprinted Mailer’s “The Language of Men” (53.2). In December 1959 he co-moderated, with Paul Engle, the Esquire-and-University-of-Iowa symposium “The Writer in a Mass Culture” (see 59.18).
