Harvey Breit

American critic and editor (1909–1968), long associated with The New York Times Book Review, where he was a regular interviewer of writers. Compiler of The Writer Observed (Cleveland: World, 1956) — an anthology of his NYTBR author interviews. Two of Breit's Mailer interviews are in the project register: the 15 August 1948 NYTBR book-chat column (48.5) and the extended 3 June 1951 interview (51.2) on the influence of Moby-Dick on NAD.
