James Marcus is an American critic and essayist, a former editor at Harper’s Magazine, and the author of Glad to the Brink of Fear: A Portrait of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Amazonia. His Times Literary Supplement essay In the Ring with Mailer (2023) reviewed three of the Mailer centenary books.
