Jimmy Breslin, the New York columnist and novelist, ran with Mailer in the 1969 Mailer–Breslin campaign as candidate for President of the City Council while Mailer sought the mayoral nomination. His “I Run to Win” (69.24) is the wittiest account of how the ticket formed; both contributed to Running Against the Machine (69.80).
