Michiko Kakutani, the American literary critic who would become the long-serving chief book critic of the New York Times, interviewed and reviewed Mailer repeatedly. Among her interviews are the 1980 “Do Facts and Fiction Mix?” round-up (80.4) and “Mailer Talking” (82.14), the latter occasioned by Pieces and Pontifications and reprinted in her collection The Poet at the Piano (1988).
