Rip Torn

American actor and a longtime collaborator and friend of Mailer's; a lead in The Deer Park: A Play (1967) and, later, famous for the on-camera hammer fight with Mailer during the filming of Maidstone (1968-70).

Rip Torn, the American actor, was a lead in the first New York company of The Deer Park: A Play (67.13). A frequent Mailer collaborator, he is best remembered in the Mailer story for the improvised hammer attack on Mailer during the filming of Maidstone (1968–70).
