Foreword to The End of Obscenity, by Charles Rembar
Mailer's foreword to his cousin Charles Rembar's account of the Lady Chatterley, Tropic of Cancer, and Fanny Hill obscenity trials; first appeared in the British edition.
A foreword to The End of Obscenity: The Trials of “Lady Chatterley,” “Tropic of Cancer” and “Fanny Hill” by Charles Rembar — Mailer’s first cousin and his lawyer. An admiring sketch of “Cy,” who preceded Mailer at Harvard. The foreword appeared first in the British (Deutsch) edition; the 1968 American first edition (Random House) carried only a jacket blurb drawn from its first sentence: “The book in your hand is a quiet and essentially modest account of a legal revolution.” Rpt: as the Introduction to the Bantam softcover (September); 72.7, 82.19.
