Opening spread of "Our Man at Harvard," Esquire, April 1977

“Our Man at Harvard,” a memoir in Esquire (April 1977) of the Harvard Advocate in the spring of 1942 — the milieu of Mailer’s earliest published fiction and his Somerset Maugham party anecdote. Reprinted as the preface to First Flowering: The Best of the “Harvard Advocate” (Addison-Wesley); also in Pieces and Pontifications (82.16, where the acknowledgments wrongly date it to the 22 March Esquire) and The Time of Our Time (98.7, partial), complete in Mind of an Outlaw (13.1).
