Mailer’s brief (189-word) preface to Carl Oglesby’s The JFK Assassination: The Facts and the Theories (New American Library, May 1992, p. 9), praising Oglesby — a founder of the Assassination Information Bureau — for a “crucial” contribution to the Kennedy case: “He is one of the few contemporaries I read for the pleasure of clarifying my own thinking.” It belongs with Mailer’s 1992 preoccupation with the assassination (see “Footfalls in the Crypt,” 92.4).
