Ransom Center director Thomas Staley describes the Mailer papers as “the Platonic conception of what an archive should be,” and Mailer says he decided to sell to the Ransom Center because it was “the greatest collection of literary archives to be found in America” (see 05.3, 05.4, 05.6, 05.9, 05.12, 05.13).
