The Actors Studio, the New York workshop long associated with Method acting, gave the 1986 staging of Mailer’s play Strawhead — adapted from Of Women and Their Elegance (80.15), with his daughter Kate Mailer as Marilyn Monroe (86.22, 86.25). Mailer spoke of his long affiliation with the Studio while shooting the Tough Guys Don’t Dance film later that year (86.39). The play had its only productions there and in brief experimental runs in Boston and Provincetown; it was never published.
