American writer and journalist; a friend of Mailer who interviewed him in Provincetown in July 1981 for the Madrid daily El Pais, later reprinting the full conversation in her collection Horse-Trading and Ecstasy (1989).

Barbara Probst Solomon, the American writer and journalist, interviewed Mailer in Provincetown on 16 July 1981 for the Madrid daily El País (“Una Conversación con Norman Mailer,” 81.16), drawing him out on the forthcoming Ancient Evenings (83.18) and on writers from Borges and García Márquez to Henry Adams. The interview was later edited and cut to a third of its length as “To Pontificate on Europe and America” in Pieces and Pontifications (82.16); Solomon reprinted it in full in her collection Horse-Trading and Ecstasy (North Point Press, 1989).
