Norman Mailer: Works and Days

Bibliography 1981

Bibliography for 1981. Twenty-four entries from Lennon & Lennon’s Works and Days (81.1-81.23, including the lettered insertion 81.5a). The year is dominated by the Jack Henry Abbott affair — Mailer’s introduction to In the Belly of the Beast (81.10), the parole he helped win, and the killing of Richard Adan on 18 July — together with Mailer’s turn as Stanford White in Forman’s Ragtime and his capital-punishment essay for Parade (81.5). The Abbott-coverage entries (81.11-81.14) point to the introduction’s Work page, which serves as the hub for the affair.
