Carol Stevens

Their daughter, Maggie Alexandra, was born on 21 March 1971, and Mailer dedicated The Prisoner of Sex (71.20) “To Carol Stevens” the same spring. In November 1980 — in the much-noted week in which Mailer divorced Beverly Bentley and married Barbara Norris (Norris Church) — he briefly married and then divorced Stevens, an arrangement undertaken to formalize Maggie’s status.
