David Susskind was an American producer of television, movies, and stage plays, and the host of the talk show Open End (later The David Susskind Show). Mailer appeared on the program in early November 1963; his 26 November 1963 letter to Susskind (in the Letters collection) proposes a two-hour televised “mano a mano” with William F. Buckley, Jr., recalling their sell-out 22 September 1962 Chicago debate.
