Robert Lowell

American poet (1917–1977), one of the central figures of postwar American poetry. Mailer meets him at the March 1949 Waldorf Conference — a relationship that will culminate in their shared 21 October 1967 participation in the March on the Pentagon, the central event of The Armies of the Night, where Lowell is one of its principal characters.
