The New Republic
American liberal weekly founded 1914. Joseph P. Lash's "Weekend at the Waldorf" (49.2c), 18 April 1949, is the first New Republic entry in the Mailer bibliography. TNR will host further Mailer-related material across subsequent decades — notably Mailer's 1992 account of the Republican Convention, recorded in Lennon's 1992 Days entry.
Founded in 1914 by Herbert Croly and Walter Lippmann among others, The New Republic has served since as one of the central U.S. liberal weeklies of political and cultural commentary.
