The first 500 words of the column comment on Mailer’s October column (63.11); the remainder (approximately 2,500 words) is reprinted from The Presidential Papers itself, divided into eight sections drawn from the following pages of 63.37, in this order: 26–27, 60–61, 64–65, 81–82, 161, 151–52, 214–15, 214.
