“The Executioner’s Song,” the second installment of the Playboy serialization (November 1979) of Mailer’s Gary Gilmore narrative, illustrated by Marshall Arisman. It corresponds, with many changes, to a compressed version of chapters 9-18 of The Executioner’s Song (79.14). The three installments together won Playboy’s 1979 best-major-work award.
