Browsing Through Mailer's 'Cannibals'

“Browsing Through Mailer’s ‘Cannibals,’” an article-interview by Christopher Lehmann-Haupt in the New York Times (6 November 1980), exploring the connection between the poem “The Executioner’s Song” in Cannibals and Christians (66.11) and the 1979 narrative of the same name. “I wanted to put the poem at the beginning,” Mailer said, “but I thought it would prove misleading… The executioner in the [book] might after all be Gary Gilmore.”
