Amy Brady. “Why Norman Mailer Still Matters in 2018.” The Village Voice, 22 March 2018.

An interview with J. Michael Lennon occasioned by the Library of America‘s The Sixties boxed set (ed. Lennon) and the fiftieth anniversary of The Armies of the Night. Lennon recounts Mailer’s Village Voice co-founding, the Kennedy obsession behind “Superman Comes to the Supermarket,” the third-person method of Armies, and Mailer’s left-conservative politics; pressed on Mailer’s misogyny and the 1960 stabbing in the post-Weinstein moment, he defends reading Mailer as “a hell of a writer … an imperfect American.”
