The posthumous publication of Mailer's correspondence begins in earnest: J. Michael Lennon edits four letter-series in Playboy and the New York Review of Books, and the first memoirs by those who knew Mailer appear (Kaylie Jones, Carole Mallory).
The first full posthumous year is given over to Mailer’s letters and to the memories of those who knew him.
The letters
J. Michael Lennon edits four selections of Mailer’s correspondence — a foretaste of his 2014 Selected Letters (14.3): “A Man of Letters” (28 letters, Playboy, 09.1), “Letters on Writing” (09.2), the “‘Deer Park’ Letters” (09.3), and “Letters to Jack Henry Abbott” (09.4), the last three in the New York Review of Books.
The memoirs
Sue Fox’s “Mailer’s Final Legacy” (09.5) gathers recollections of his last days. Two book-length memoirs appear: Kaylie Jones‘s Lies My Mother Never Told Me (09.6) and Carole Mallory‘s Loving Mailer (09.7).
October — the Society conference
