Carole Mallory, an actor, model, and writer, interviewed Mailer repeatedly in the 1980s — the Elle piece of January 1986 (86.1), the unlocated L.A. Magazine interview behind the 1986 New York Post item (86.29), and “Checking In with Norman Mailer” in Smart (89.9). She and Mailer carried on a long extramarital relationship through roughly 1983–1992, which she documented afterward (her Mailer papers were later acquired by Harvard). The relationship is treated in later scholarship and memoir rather than in Lennon’s register.
