Diana Athill was a British editor and, later, a celebrated memoirist. As an editor and director at Andre Deutsch, Mailer’s British publisher, she was one of his regular correspondents during the An American Dream years; Mailer wrote to her several times between 1964 and 1965 (letters collected in Norman Mailer’s Letters on An American Dream).
