Jerry Rubin was a countercultural activist and co-founder, with Abbie Hoffman, of the Youth International Party (the “Yippies”), and one of the defendants in the Chicago Seven conspiracy trial. In his Chicago Seven testimony, collected in The Tales of Hoffman (70.6), Mailer explains his involvement with Rubin; the two also appear, with Hoffman, at the Standard Club lunch reported in 70.3.
