Kennedy, was the subject of Mailer’s Oswald’s Tale: An American Mystery (95.16) — built, with Lawrence Schiller, partly from KGB files and interviews in Minsk, where Oswald lived during his Soviet years, and from five days of interviews with Marina Oswald. Mailer, once a conspiracy theorist, concluded he was “75 percent sure” Oswald acted alone, calling him “a remarkable fellow” who “understood the United States and the Soviet Union on a local level,” and framing the book’s aim as delineating Oswald’s character rather than solving the case.
