Martin Amis
British novelist and critic; he interviewed and wrote about Mailer across the 1980s — collected as a chapter in The Moronic Inferno (1986) — and reviewed Tough Guys Don't Dance.
Martin Amis, the British novelist and critic, wrote about Mailer repeatedly through the 1980s. His mixed Observer review of Tough Guys Don’t Dance (October 1984) he later collected in The War Against Cliché (2001); and his chapter “Mailer: The Avenger and the Bitch,” cobbled together from three Observer pieces (1981, 1982, 1985), appeared in The Moronic Inferno and Other Visits to America (London: Jonathan Cape; New York: Viking, 1987 — English edition 1986; 86.42). Lennon prizes the chapter for its “representative British combination of indignation and awe in the face of genuine American phenomena.”
