Richard Stratton, the American writer and filmmaker, conducted the two-part Rolling Stone interview with Mailer in January 1975 — “Aquarius Hustling” (75.1) and “Sympathy for the Devil” (75.2), with photographs by Annie Leibovitz. He became a durable Mailer associate; Mailer would later champion him during his imprisonment on marijuana-trafficking charges in the 1980s.
