Norman Mailer: Works and Days

Walter Minton

President of G. P. Putnam's Sons, Mailer's "regular publisher"; Mailer passed An American Dream to Dial Press rather than burden a friend with the risk.

Walter Minton was president of G. P. Putnam’s Sons, Mailer’s regular publisher in the early 1960s. Mailer chose to publish the serialized An American Dream with Dial rather than Putnam’s, reasoning that “there would be a lot more pressure on me if I were doing it for a pal” (see 65.5). Minton is thanked in the novel’s acknowledgments.
