The Mailers moved to Bridgewater, Connecticut, in the fall of 1956, near the home of William Styron. There Mailer took up boxing under his father-in-law Al Morales and built an orgone box. A bitter falling-out with Styron and boredom with country living prompt the Mailers’ return to New York in 1958.
