Magazine that grew out of Mailer's 'Fifth Estate' after its 1974 merger with the Committee for Action/Research on the Intelligence Community (CAR-IC); it published exposes of the CIA, to which Mailer contributed.
Counter-Spy was the magazine that emerged from Mailer’s Fifth Estate after the proposed watchdog body merged in 1974 with the Committee for Action/Research on the Intelligence Community (CAR-IC) (see 74.6). It published exposes of the CIA; Mailer contributed “The CIA vs. Democracy” (75.4), describing the Fifth Estate as “homeopathic medicine — one small drop for a large disease.”
