Buchanan, ran as an Esquire cover story in August 1996 (54–61, 118–27), billed “Norman Mailer: Armies of the Right.” It is a long, thoughtful discussion of the populist roots shared by the Right and the Left and the possibility of an alliance between factions of both against corporate excess and big government — the title echoing his own The Armies of the Night (68.8).
