“War of the Oxymorons,” Mailer’s nonfiction-narrative account of the 1996 Republican and Democratic conventions, appeared in George — John F. Kennedy Jr.’s politics-and-celebrity magazine — in November 1996 (128–73), his first appearance there. It continues the convention reporting that runs from Miami and the Siege of Chicago through “By Heaven Inspired” (92.10). Reprinted in the Observer Life (London), in The Time of Our Time (98.7, partial), and complete in Mind of an Outlaw (13.1).
