Into the Mirror: The Life of Master Spy, Robert P. Hanssen, by Lawrence Schiller (HarperCollins, May 2002, 317 pp.) — based on a joint investigation by Schiller and Mailer, including a trip to Russia to interview Hanssen’s KGB handlers. Mailer wrote the screenplay for the four-hour television miniseries Master Spy: The Robert Hanssen Story (aired 10 and 17 November 2001), and Schiller transformed that material into this book. It is the third Mailer–Schiller collaboration, after The Executioner’s Song and Oswald’s Tale.
