Mailer is indicted (January), pleads guilty (4 May), and is sentenced to probation (13 November) for the stabbing of Adele; he separates from her, meets Lady Jeanne Campbell at Gore Vidal‘s, and produces his first work for The Paris Review, Playboy, and The New Yorker. The André Deutsch British edition of Advertisements for Myself — with “The Time of Her Time” censored — drives a London press tour that generates a clutch of British interviews. Thirty entries in all: fourteen by, five interview, three article-interview, seven article, one about.
