The Long Branch household

In 1923 the Mailers live with Fan’s family in Long Branch — first on Morris Avenue, and then in a cluster of three large beach “cottages” at Beach and Ocean Avenues owned by Fan’s parents and named “Kingsley Court” after Norman. The Schneider hotels along the Long Branch shore will remain a central locus of Mailer family life through the 1930s.

Context

Sources disagree on Mailer’s birth year. Lennon’s Days RTF, Mailer’s own recollections, every standard reference, and the ProjectMailer.net biographical summary all give 31 January 1923. The ProjectMailer.net “Important Dates” table opens with 1928 | Born January 31, Long Branch, New Jersey... — a typographic slip in the source document; the correct year is 1923. Flagged for correction in the upstream source.
