Mailer breaks the news to his Corgi editor that the Dial–Dell deal forced him to surrender the British paperback rights, despite his pleasure with Corgi's jackets; the transaction, he says, 'took place in a record forty-eight hours' and was 'much like Hollywood.'
A letter to Alan Earney, editor at Transworld (Corgi), praising the Corgi jacket for Advertisements for Myself and then delivering “a bit of news which I expect will prove upsetting”: the Dial–Dell deal had, as a condition, bought the English paperback rights for a Dell subsidiary, so the serial novel will not go to Corgi. Mailer insists he bears “no ill feeling” toward the house and expects “we’ll be together again after this serial is published.”
