Alan Earney was an editor at Transworld Publishers Limited, whose Corgi imprint published the British soft-cover edition of Advertisements for Myself (1963). Mailer wrote to Earney twice in the autumn of 1963 (15 October and 4 November; both letters in the collection) explaining that the Dial–Dell deal for An American Dream had swept up the British paperback rights, costing Corgi the book.
