A follow-up to Corgi: the British paperback situation may not be so final as Mailer had thought — Mayflower has only an option and a right to match — so Corgi is not necessarily closed off. He names the novel under discussion: An American Dream.
A brief follow-up to Alan Earney softening the previous letter’s bad news: the situation “is not so final as I thought,” since Mayflower held only an option to bid first and match, so Corgi is “not necessarily closed off from one another altogether.” Mailer names “An American Dream (which is the title of the novel under discussion).” The public learned the title in his final “Big Bite” column (Esquire, December 1963), on newsstands in mid-November.
