Gerald R. Lucas
Mailer scholar and editor; Professor of English at Middle Georgia State University and editor of Project Mailer. He is the continuing editor of this digital edition of Norman Mailer: Works and Days, co-editor of the site's full-text "The White Negro" (with Jason Mosser), and a contributor to Norman Mailer in Context (2021).
Gerald R. Lucas is Professor of English at Middle Georgia State University and the editor of Project Mailer; he has published on contemporary American literature, science fiction, and media studies. He helped revise and edit J. Michael and Donna Pedro Lennon’s 2018 edition of the print Works and Days, and from 2026 he is the continuing editor of this digital successor edition (see About this project).
Within the project’s recent holdings he recurs several times over: he co-edited, with Jason Mosser, the annotated full text of “The White Negro”; he co-edited the posthumous Lipton’s, A Marijuana Journal (2024) with J. Michael Lennon and Susan Mailer; he contributed the “Political Resonance” chapter to Maggie McKinley’s Norman Mailer in Context; and, as “editor of Project Mailer,” he supplied a jacket note to McKinley’s Understanding Norman Mailer.
