“The Dead Are Dying of Thirst: The Fight, Part I,” a nonfiction narrative in Playboy (May 1975) on the Muhammad Ali–George Foreman title fight of 30 October 1974 in Zaire. An earlier, shorter version of the narrative that, with many changes, became Part I of The Fight (75.12). With Part II (75.9), it won Playboy’s annual award for best nonfiction of 1975.
