Mary V. Dearborn wrote Mailer: A Biography (Houghton Mifflin, 1999, 99.8), the fourth full-length biography of Mailer — after Mills (82.23), Manso (85.13), and Rollyson (91.22). Mailer declined to be interviewed, but Dearborn drew on some fifty interviews, including with his fourth wife Beverly Bentley and his estranged friend Norman Podhoretz; Mailer pushed back at the book (99.7; see 00.1).
