Norman Mailer vs. Women's Lib
Israel Shenker's New York Times report on the 30 April 1971 Town Hall panel 'A Dialogue on Women's Liberation,' with Mailer as moderator and panelists including Germaine Greer, Jill Johnston, and Diana Trilling. The evening was filmed as Town Bloody Hall.
“Norman Mailer vs. Women’s Lib,” an article by Israel Shenker in the New York Times (1 May 1971), reports on the 30 April meeting “A Dialogue on Women’s Liberation,” sponsored by New York University and the Theatre for Ideas at Town Hall in New York. With Mailer moderating, the panel comprised Germaine Greer, Jacqueline Ceballos (president of the New York City chapter of the National Organization for Women), Jill Johnston, and Diana Trilling. Mailer said later that his hair began to turn white that night. The evening became the subject of D. A. Pennebaker’s documentary Town Bloody Hall.
