Conversations with Norman Mailer, edited by J. Michael Lennon for the University Press of Mississippi‘s Literary Conversations Series, published 31 July 1988 (396 pp., $26.95). It gathers 34 previously published interviews — including three of Mailer’s self-interviews — with an introduction, a chronology of his life, and an index. It is the standard collection of Mailer’s interviews, and the source of the many “Rpt: 88.6” cross-references throughout this register. The volume marks an early milestone in Lennon’s decades-long work as Mailer’s archivist and editor.
