Susan Mailer
Norman Mailer's first child, born 28 August 1949 in Hollywood to Beatrice Silverman Mailer. A practicing psychoanalyst in adulthood; a recurring presence in the Days chronology across the remainder of Mailer's life.
Susan Mailer was born to Beatrice Silverman Mailer on 28 August 1949, during the Mailers’ summer residence in Hollywood. She is Norman Mailer’s first of nine children.
After 1951, when the Mailers separated, Susan moved with Bea to Mexico (see 1952); Mailer thereafter made regular visits to see Susan there. In adulthood Susan trained as a psychoanalyst, settling in Chile.
In 2019 she published a memoir of her father, In Another Place: With and Without My Father, Norman Mailer (Northampton House Press).
