The New York trade house (founded 1838) that became Mailer's publisher after Rinehart suppressed The Deer Park in 1954. Walter Minton accepted the novel when six other publishers had turned it down, and Putnam's published it on 14 October 1955.
After Rinehart stopped The Deer Park and six further publishers rejected it, Walter Minton of G. P. Putnam’s Sons accepted the novel; Putnam’s issued it on 14 October 1955 (375 pp., $4). The book reached number six on the New York Times bestseller list.
