Editorial notes
- Genre-hybrid cross-link. Lennon’s register classes this piece as a column (
form: column), but when Mailer gathered it into The Short Fiction of Norman Mailer (67.11) retitled “The Locust Cry,” it took its place among the stories. Norman Mailer’s Short Fiction therefore treats the same text as short fiction; the reciprocal handle (nmsf-id: the-locust-cry) records that dual treatment. It is the one essay/column page in this vault that carries annmsf-id, by the editor’s decision.
